Finding adequate health care coverage is a challenge for all of us. KNEA believes that every school system should provide a comprehensive health insurance plan for its employees. That means access to a plan, plus that plan should be affordable. It also should provide coverage that is broad enough to protect the employee and the employee's family from economic hardship.

The hard work of KNEA members paid off when the State Health Care Commission passed a resolution allowing public school employees to be a part of the state employee health plan pool. KNEA helped make that happen by working with Governor's Office, the Insurance Commissioner, key legislators and other state officials.

Health insurance is a mandatorily negotiable subject. KNEA members can contact their UniServ director, who is a great resource on this and many other issues, to answer questions and get support. Another great resource is the Kansas Insurance Department.

KNEA members can find useful resources and research on health insurance in the member-only section of this KNEA Web site .
