Kansas Teacher
Leader Assessment pilot
runs through June 10 -
Intent due to KSDE April 1

If you are a teacher leader and/or are serving in a teacher leader position, you have a unique opportunity to assist your profession by piloting the new assessment for the Kansas Teacher Leader License.  The pilot runs from now until June 10, 2010, with an intent form due to KSDE no later than April 1, 2010.

To be eligible for the pilot, you must have a MA degree [in anything], a 3.25 cumulative gpa in graduate coursework, a Kansas Professional Teaching License, and at least 5 years of accredited experience.

As an incentive, those who successfully complete the pilot [by turning in a scorable assessment] will be eligible to apply for the Kansas Teacher Leader license and will receive $40 to offset the cost of the application fee.

"It is essential that you read the Teacher Leader Standards thoroughly prior to declaring your intent, since the 6 tasks on the assessment are based on these 8 standards," said Peg Dunlap, director of KNEA Instructional Advocacy. "Those standards are included in the Pilot Candidate Guide, posted on the website, along with the Intent Form and the 6 Teacher Leader Assessment Tasks, which include the scoring rubrics."
