KNEA is the "go to" resource for professional development and school improvement!

Kansas NEA is committed to providing a highly skilled, competent, qualified and diverse teaching force. We work to make professional development ongoing and relevant to what teachers do on the job every day.

KNEA is also an excellent clearing house for resources on a vast number of subject areas from NEA and other organizations. When teachers need it, KNEA's got it. That's just one of many reasons professional educators join KNEA.

KNEA is the education resource, having created numerous professional resources including quality in-service training and valuable, user-friendly teaching and learning resources. Created by teachers and KNEA staff, these effective, user-friendly trainings are eligible for Individualized Development Program (IDP) points.

Review the many quality professional development resources available through KNEA, like the ones below. These are all available through your KNEA UniServ Office and the KNEA Educator's Resource Library .

  • Changes to the Kansas Performance Assessment – clarifies the changes to the KPA, the Transitional Performance Assessment and provides training for support providers.
  • “I Can Do It” classroom management training.
  • Bullyproof – provides harassment prevention strategies for K-12 teachers to use with their students.
  • PDC Training by the KNEA/Greenbush Professional Development Consortium – what every PDC member needs to know about the Professional Development regulations and the Kansas Staff Development Standards.
  • The KEYS Online Survey provides data for school improvement planning; a continuum of support services are available once the data is generated.
  • KNEA's Quality Schools Cadre, leaders and members with specialized training, is available to help with school improvement efforts.
  • KNEA developed a set of Quality School Standards - descriptors of a school that link factors of educator working conditions and student achievement. These standards have been used by bargaining teams to help guide priorities that can be justified based on "what's best for students", particularly when resources were scarce.
  • Locals in which students are taking courses online may use the NEA guide to standards for quality online high school courses.
  • KNEA provides the best information in the state regarding the requirements of NCLB, IDEA and other important issues. Our materials are frequently "borrowed" and used by administration and school boards!
  • KNEA has developed and offers a Kansas State Department of Education-approved training program for Professional Development Councils (PDC) - this training is required annually for every PDC in the state. Members may apply to KNEA to become part of the training cadre.
  • KNEA worked with KSDE to craft a HOUSSE for Highly Qualified status that is a model for many states in the country. The HOUSSE system developed protected veteran qualified teachers from threats to their licensure.
  • KNEA developed standards and training for teacher induction and mentoring programs. KNEA staff use these standards and work with districts to help them develop and implement programs to help new teachers succeed.
  • KNEA helps bargaining teams as they bargain professional development issues to ensure that those experiences are relevant, of high quality and worthwhile to our members.
  • The NEA Web site offers links to lesson plans and teaching aids that are available to members only (Teacher ToolKit).
  • Dealing with Difficult People is a training offered to members and locals in several ways - for some, the training has been used to help prepare for parent conferences while others have made the training part of an overall leadership skills development program.
