Review: Madeline Finn, who does NOT like to read, is quietly encouraged by her Mom, teacher, and librarian. Overwhelmed with it all, Madeline yearns to get the star stickers like the good readers get, but the sentences just "get stuck in her mouth like peanut butter." Reading aloud to Bonnie, the library dog, helps because Bonnie is patient and listens without comment, and Madeline slowly begins to read better and better. Papp's expressive illustrations of the girl and dog together are a delight.
