Review: This beautiful historical fiction book gently introduces young readers to the "Jim Crow" era through the eyes of those most affected. Seeing a new pair of shoes in the store, forced to wait until a white customer is served, and then forbidden to even try the shoes on, Ella Mae joins with her friend Charlotte to collect and refurbish old shoes. Then all the African Americans in the community are invited to their shoe sale where all are treated fairly and can buy what they want.
