Education Support Professionals
A Part of the KNEA Team and VIP to our kids’ education
KNEA's Education Support Professional (ESP) members take care of our students every day, making sure they have the tools they need to succeed in school. Educational Support Professionals (ESP) drive the buses, clean the buildings, prepare the meals and bandage the scraped knees. ESP include school support staff such as school secretaries, paraprofessionals, custodial staff, food service staff and bus drivers. School support staff are the first to arrive at school and the last to leave, and schools couldn’t operate without them. Even though they make up more than 40 percent of all public school employees, their role in supporting students and teachers is often overlooked.
A local option program, KNEA works to improve the work lives of school support staff by advocating at the local and state levels for better working conditions, salaries and benefits, providing resources and through professional development and recognition programs. For example, KNEA honors members through the ESP of the Year award. For more on KNEA’s ESP issues, contact the KNEA Board member representing ESP Tim Stuck at timothystuck@usd475.org.
