Legal Services


Kansas NEA provides an array of legal services to its members. The Association has made an unwavering commitment to protect the rights of Kansas teachers and improve the power of their collective voice as well as their individual rights. Kansas teachers and support personnel rights have been enlarged and/or created by the work of the legal services division in cooperation with other areas of the Association.

The legal services division includes three full time attorneys who have a combined 70 years experience representing members.

The division also manages the Educator Liability Insurance program, the Attorney referral program, serves as liaison to the Constitution and By Laws Committee, the Resolutions Committee and the Human and Civil Rights Commission.

The attorneys represent over 70 local associations each school year as well as many individual members in employment matters that include unemployment claims, teacher retirement issues, dismissal proceedings and related issues. The goal is to protect members rights as they work to make public schools great for every child.

The legal division also assists the KNEA governmental relations division protect members statutory rights including tenure and collective bargaining.
