Behind every great student is a great public school teacher
KNEA public relations campaign highlights effective teaching, student success
"Behind every great student is a great public school teacher" is the theme of a PR campaign KNEA kicked off on December 1. There are four TV spots and radio spots airing in conjunction with the Kansas Association of Broadcasters.  The campaign is funded through a grant from the NEA.

TELL US YOUR STORY!
As part of this PR campaign, KNEA is collecting and sharing stories of outstanding teaching and learning. Stories - by both students AND teachers -- can be provided in writing here. If submitting a story via video, please tag your video "kansasnea" on KNEA's Facebook page or send a link to mailto:kneanews@knea.org.  Be sure to "like" us on Facebook!

KNEA's vision for Kansas public schools IS our Legislative Agenda
Will the people you voted for VOTE FOR YOU in the 2012 Legislative session?
Looking at the students in our classrooms, we see the next Steve Hawley, Velma Wallace or Dwight D. Eisenhower. All children should have the opportunity to succeed.  We are committed to making public schools great for every child.  That's KNEA's vision for Kansas public schools.

CELEBRATING BOB WOOTTON
Bob Wootton convinced KNEA teachers to be a participant, not a spectator, in the political process that impacts student learning, the ability of teachers to teach and the quality of public schools and higher education.  Read about Bob Wootton here.

Time to apply for KNEA grants, awards
Many ways to honor your good work -- awards, grants & scholarships
KNEA and NEA provide grant money and awards for your good work, for projects and activities that promote student learning, excellence in teaching and advocacy for Kansas public schools.

The KNEA Strategic Focus Grant, which funds activities that further KNEA's mission to make public schools great for every child, has a February 9 deadline.

February 1 is the deadline for KNEA Awards, including Friend of Education and those honoring work in the areas of bargaining, political activism, protection of teacher rights, membership and human and civil rights.  KNEA Scholarships have varying deadlines. Most are aimed at student members, both traditional and nontraditional.  The Sherri Yourdon Memorial Scholarship is for single mothers pursuing an advanced degree.

Higher education members, especially, should check out the grants available through the NEA Foundation.
