About KNEA

Our Mission

The Kansas National Education Association's mission is to advocate for education professionals and to unite our members, Kansans, and the nation to fulfill the promise of public education to prepare every student to succeed in a diverse and interdependent world.

To accomplish this, we work with laser focus on THREE strategic goals:  quality public schools, strengthen the teaching profession, and improve the well-being of members. Most important to KNEA members are the concerns of teachers and the needs of students. KNEA, in cooperation with its local associations and the National Education Association, developed a variety of programs to meet both the professional and the personal needs of its membership.

KNEA is making a difference for our schools, our students and profession. Here's how:

  • Partnering with the United School Administrators of Kansas and the Kansas State Department of Education to facilitate a teacher working conditions survey (KanTeLL).
  • Working to provide teaching and learning conditions that support achievement, to advocate for genuine collaboration and empowerment, and to create a culture of professionalism in our schools and districts.
  • Developing and implementing a plan to support an increase in teachers' salaries, provide adequate and affordable health insurance and improve the level of funding for Kansas public schools.
  • Implementing a program to assist schools that are planning, organizing and/or implementing school improvement efforts.
  • Investigating and implementing a support system for local associations that are developing new or strengthening existing induction programs and peer assistance programs.
  • Providing training on professional development standards, on developing and/or strengthening quality professional development, and on KNEA's role in quality professional development programs.
  • Outlining comprehensive training programs to promote quality public schools and strengthen the teaching profession.
  • Identifying and suggesting potential uses of resources to assist schools in providing safe environments for students and staff.
  • Offering online communities to discuss professional issues and provide direct input to KNEA.

Our Association

Since 1863 the Kansas National Education Association has helped its members improve teaching and learning. Most important to KNEA members are the concerns of teachers and needs of students.

KNEA, in cooperation with its local associations and the National Education Association, developed a variety of programs to meet both the professional and the personal needs of its membership.

The Kansas National Education Association, along with the National Education Association and your local Association, serve teaching professionals. KNEA cares about those who care about kids. Through the years, KNEA teachers continually work to provide and promote quality public schools, to improve the well-being of members, and to strengthen the teaching profession.
